Portfolio Review 3

Writer's picture: Jack HillJack Hill

For this final Portfolio I will be looking are someone who has joined the industry recently with just over a year experience. After this review we would have looked at 3 different levels of Game Designer portfolio, one graduate, an experience designer and a fairly new to the industry designer. This will give a wide scope of portfolios and show how they differ with various levels of experience in the industry.

First Look:

My first thought when load up this site was that it is very clean, you see right away what the authors main focus is. Scrolling through the site almost tells a story about the author as we see their 'About' section, then we given a demo reel of their work followed by their relevant experience. it is not until we get to the bottom of the page that we see their portfolio of work, that is one thing I would change, as from speaking to recruiter it is important to have your work at the forefront of your website. However, this is mainly for people looking to get hired into industry where as the author here already has an industry position; I do still think that even with a industry job you should have you body of work be the first thing people see.

The site does clearly show where they are specialized in certain areas of design and other skills, however, they do use language such as "Relatively" and "Notions of" which does give a strong sense of confident in ability. Looking at the body of work however does show a very strong skill in level design; I would change the wording of these sections to be more confident of their own skill.

Aesthetic:

As I said earlier this site has a very clean look and feel to it with white being the only colour used for the page itself, this does help to make the section with colour, such and the info graphic and game art stand out. when first loading in we also get effects of text fading in or scrolling form the side of page, luckily this only happens when first loading the page as this could become annoying when you want to see information but have to wait for it to fade in.

The clean look and feel the site is clear throughout giving a continuity to it, which translates to the information also being clearly viable throughout also. The almost clinical feel of this page I feel adds tot he professionalism that the site gives off, even if it is slightly juxtaposed by some of the less confident language.

Ease of use:

As with the other sites we have looked at this site functions as it should, it does also have some other features that I have not seen in the other sites. The main feature that I really like is in the portfolio section there is the option to filter the projects by certain design aspects; this mean that someone looking at this portfolio is able to filter by the design aspects they are interested in.
