As I have been working on re-writing the story of my project I have been letting Spotify play through tracks it recommends, and there is no surprise then that it gave me a genre that can be best described as "Viking metal". This band is called the Brothers of Metal and in their newest album called Emblas Saga.

The first 4 tracks in this album tells the tale of Loki's 3 children and the parts they play in Ragnarok, and when listening to them inspiration hit. With this album giving me a completely new idea and angle on how to tell the story of Ragnarok, or at least part of it. Much like the songs in the album, this new story focuses on each of the children of Loki, Hel, Jormungandr and Fenrir and their roles in Ragnarok.
Unlike my fist design, this new story spans across 3 separate levels with each one being themed around a specific child of Loki. The player character will play as one of the 2 humans to survive Ragnarok however, the game will be set before the end times. The player will be tasked by a mysterious figure, presumably one of the gods, to enter each of the children's realms to learn the role they will play in Ragnarok. The player will find that each of the levels will be themed around one of the children along with a puzzle that will be in the level. Playing through each level will teach the player about each child's story and what part they play in Ragnarok.
I feel this new story is more coherent than my previous one, giving the player a clear goal, learn about the children of Loki. This also allows for different themes to be used keeping the settings interesting for the player along with a stronger narrative hook than previously to keep the player more invested with the story. As before it was more about learning disjointed stories that only had a vague connection to each other. This has a strong arc and path for the player to follow. As you have probably been able to tell by how I am writing about this story idea I am a lot more confident in than I was my last one, and I am very fortunate that I stumbled across this album which gave me the inspiration for this new story.
